Tutti Fruiti Summer!

I love summer.  I love the things you can do outside that wouldn't be as much fun any other time of year.  Splash and play.  Surf.  Ride the waves.  Okay, I guess water themes are on my mind!  I do enjoy the beach!

And the food!  I love watermelon and sweet strawberries, yummy blueberries.  They may be available at odd times of the year, but they are best when they are fresh and sweet!

The brilliant colors of the flowers - fushia, hot pink, purple, orange, yellow.  Oh, the world is so full of intense color in the gardens of summer.

Do you notice how people wear brighter colors in the summer?  The canary yellows and lilacs and raspberry colored tops. The children certainly dress in the lightest, airiest most fun outfits!

This bouquet is a nod, a gift to summer.  It embraces all that summer is to me - fun, cheery, bright.  Think of is as a fun gift for a godchild, granddaughter, flower girl.  Or bring it to the hospital to bright someone's day!

I hope it cheers someone up because I enjoyed playing with the brightly colored and polka dotted buttons!

Scalloped edge Myott Staffordshire Plate

Today's listing is for the lovely vintage plate. I can hardly part with it.   I inherited it with a house merging and already have several sets of china!  This is a beauty, though.  Made in England in Forget-Me-Not pattern, it would be a lovely addition to your holiday table, especially if you own a B&B or live in a Victorian home!

But it would also be lovely as a wall decoration or as a serving plate.  If you stack 3 on top of each other using a bowl in between, you have a cookie display for entertaining!

If you have this set, you could add to it.  Additional pieces are available....just ask!

Thanks for looking today at this lovely vintage plate!

Sailing, sailing

What fun it is to sail!  I had the opportunity on Sunday to take our family sailboat out on the Potomac.  It's a dream come true for me.

When the wind catches the sail you fly across the water.  It's amazing that a boat can get up to that speed on wind power alone!  The wind catches my hair and I sit back and enjoy the sun on my face and watching the glistening water.

On our boat, the boom was high enough that I didn't have to duck every time we turned about!  And how about all those boat-worthy terms?  Fore and aft, stern, port, red right, cleat, gaff, keel, rudder, shoal and my favorites, yaw & yawl!

It's a challenge to process all those terms quickly when the wind shifts and we have to come about, or is it turn about?  But it's a blast!

And I, who usually gets seasick, airsick, carsick, motion sick - am not sick at all when I sail!

Let's hear it for the red, white & blue!

I can't help it!  I love holidays!  Ask my kids.  When they were growing up, I decorated for EVERY holiday - even the minor ones!  Not just Christmas and Easter but Valentine's day, St. Patrick's Day, Cinco de Mayo, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Thanksgiving favorite.....Halloween!

One year for Valentine's Day I hung hearts in all sizes from the dining room ceiling.  At Halloween, my bay window is dressed with Dept. 56 treasures that move and howl and light up!

My friend, who shared several Christmas' with us, said, "You're holidays are magical!"   Warm fuzzies!  Well, I'm Italian and celebrating in a big way is what we do!

It's just too fun!  Red, white and blue are one of my favorite color combinations. For summer holidays, I would make a flag cake, have napkins and plates to match, dress the family in red, white & blue.  For the 4th, we'd decorate the children's bikes and wagons and enter a local parade.  They gave away prizes for the best dressed, most original, etc.  My youngest daughter won several years in a row!

So here's to our veterans and soldiers!  Here's to acknowledging you and celebrating you!  Bless you!

Life's a Beach!

I love the beach!  I have no idea why I don't live there!  The beach is so serene, peaceful but the ocean is powerful.  It's mesmerizing the way the waves roll in and roll out again.  I could stand there for hours and watch them.   Watching the waves, I was fascinated by the variety of crests and falls, the patterns, the power.

Having recently spent some time in the Outer Banks, I was inspired to create this swag to decorate your living space.  Now that I've put it up on my window, I don't want to take it down! No worries, I can enjoy looking at this one and make some more!  Check it out!
Perfect for summer and a beach themed wedding or event!

Today has been a beautiful day.  The temperature is perfect and the air conditioner doesn't need to run loudly, keeping the world out.  I love to hear the chirping birds, watch the hummingbirds sip from their feeder on the porch.

Some days, errands are a part of life.  Having a home-based business means honing in, staying focused.    But isn't one of the perks of owning your own business making your own hours?  So it's summer!  And it's lovely!  And there are errands to be run!

Part of balancing my day is taking that walk (with the dog?) or making the calls to get the medical insurance I need.  I mean, if I was behind a desk, when would I find the time?  Stealing minutes from my employer?

At least now I can make up hours in the evening or even Saturdays.  This past weekend, I spent 5 hours polishing up an article and submitting it.  What a great feeling!

I LOVE being home and my dream has always been to run a financially lucrative home-based business!  My children are grown and on their own.  It's ME time!

One of my dreams was and is to have an online business that works while I play, works while I sleep and works while I vacation!  While I was away at the OBX,  I had 2 sales!  What a treat to come home to!  It won't make me rich.  But it is a start in the right direction.  A piece of my dream come true.  And someday I'll come home to hundreds of dollars in sales.  And more orders than I can fill on my own.  And I will have achieved my dream, one bouquet at a time.

G'day World!

Such a beautiful morning!  Meditated with a friend.  Working from home.  Now, in addition to the birds chirping, the noise of various mowing machines are screaming for attention outside my office window.

To compensate, it's time to get OUT and go on my Artist's Date.  Have you read "The Artist's Way?"  I'm slowly working through it and I am fairly consistent about my all important Morning Pages.

It's noon here, though, and the noise outside gets louder and is literally chasing me out of my office.

So g'day til later!

Woo HOO! I'm a featured artist!

Heart Handmade blog has chosen to feature me as an artist!  How exciting!  I love being noticed, don't you???

Today is the first day of my button bouquet blog!

Wow!  I've been needing to start this blog but as a crafter, aren't there a million things to do?!  I get so sucked into the computer that I need to plan to spend time making, creating my bouquets.  But if you don't market them, how will people know you have this wonderful product to sell?  So what's the balance?

How do we decide what is most important and stick to a plan?  I've started to allot time limits for each thing that needs to be done.  Market on Etsy: 30 min; check email: 30 min, write: 1 hour; make bouquets: 2 hours.  This works as long as I follow it.  But don't you find that once you get to checking your emails or your site that one thing leads to another and Oh! That would be a great site to check out!  Ooh!  There's a great idea...

And so it goes.

But is there anything I'd rather be doing?  No!  I'm so grateful that I'm home and not in a stuffy office!
